This music video, a parody to Lady Gaga's "bad romance" talks about and very beautifully depicts the time in which women were fighting for suffrage, otherwise known as the right to vote. You may notice a few things in this video such as the white yellow and purple sashes which were what the women wore to promote their cause. They also depict a woman in a straight jacket being force fed which was punishment for asking for the right to vote as well as prison time. We also see the opposite side depicted, for as in any political movement there is more then one side, in this case they depict a woman with the word "Anti" across her chest as she states she feels she doesn't need to vote. Finally you can see the use of yellow and red roses, this in fact is historically accurate. On the day women's suffrage was to be decided on the men who were FOR it wore yellow roses while the men AGAINST it wore red roses. In the end it was tied and the vote came down to one man however that man was wearing a red rose, so it appeared women would be denied their suffrage, however right before he voted against women's suffrage the man found a note in his pocket. This note for the man, Harry Burn, was written by his mother and stated "Hurrah, and vote for suffrage", this is depicted in the video. He then changed his mind and voted yes, making women have the right to vote. When asked why he listened and voted yes, he stated "i know that a mothers advice is always the safest one for a boy to follow" basically stating that he had never been given a reason to not trust his mother.
