Irena smuggled Jewish infants and children out of concentration camps, she would go in to "fix a plumbing situation" however she would then take infants and place them in her tool box in order to help them escape unseen, she would do the same to larger children with burlap sacks. she spent weeks training a dog to bark when ever it saw Nazi's so they would be afraid and leave her alone so that they could not see what she was really doing, the barking also covered the noises made by the infants and children. Doing this she alone saved the lives of about 2500 kids and infants. On what turned out to be her very last mission she was caught by 2 Nazi soldiers, they broke both her legs and beat her severally, she ultimately survived the attack and got away. She had kept a detailed record of all the kids she had smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar that she had buried in her backyard behind a tree. She used these records after the war to attempt to reunite the kids with their families if they survived, the ones that dint were placed in foster homes or adopted by families that would love them. In 2007 Irena was up for a Nobel Peace Prize. She was not selected. Al Gore won for a slide show on global warming. Now Irena has been forgotten by the world, i bet before you read this, you had never even heard her name. Thank you to Irena and everyone out there with her life changing spirit.
