At a young age she received an education from her father which was uncommon for women at the time. She deiced she wanted to become a nurse, this at the time was considered unattractive as well as disrespectful. With Nursing being viewed so poorly Florence's parents greatly disapproved of this idea however Florence disobeyed and did it anyway. She was asked to marry several times but refused for fear that interfere with her true calling of helping others. Years later the Crimea war broke out and due to the lack of nursing many soldiers were dying unnecessarily. Florence, being appalled by this organized a group of women and trained them in nursing, she then flew to the site of the war and she and her team helped heal hundreds of soldiers. Today Florence Nightingale is considered the founder of modern nursing, all because she did not listen to the people standing in the way of her dream, and it truly paid off.
